Sarah McBride
Portrait / Surrealist Artist
Sarah is a full-time practicing artist with a studio in Midland. Her main art practice is portraiture and in 2022 she was a finalist in the Doug Moran National Portraiture prize with her portrait Shiny. She is a member of WA Portrait Artists. She has contributed to various group exhibitions including Southwest Art Now and had her solo exhibition Restoration at the Bunbury Regional Art Gallery. Her solo creative works incorporated animals as the main subject matter within surreal narratives that highlighted environmental and social issues. Sarah uses quirky visual vernaculars to challenge outdated beliefs and stereotypes. She is currently working on several portraits that look at the subjects of grief, body image and gender. Sarah has tutored art workshops in Bunbury, Busselton and Perth. She teaches a variety of mediums and genres, painting techniques and fundamentals, as well as advanced classes in oils.
